Why families choose a British school in Riga?

Global Recognition and Academic Excellence

One of the primary reasons families gravitate towards British schools in Riga is the universally recognized curriculum. The British educational system, known for its structured and rigorous approach, ensures that students receive a high-quality education that is respected worldwide. This global recognition is particularly appealing to parents who anticipate international careers for their children or possible relocations in the future. The curriculum not only prepares students for the GCSE and A-level examinations but also equips them with a critical and analytical approach to learning, which is highly valued in higher education and beyond.

English Language Mastery

In today’s globalized world, proficiency in English is invaluable. British schools in Riga offer an immersive English-speaking environment, which is ideal for acquiring language skills at a young age. This is a significant draw for non-native speakers, ensuring that students achieve fluency alongside their academic pursuits. Moreover, the mastery of English opens doors to prestigious universities and international job markets, making this a strategic decision for forward-thinking parents.

Cultural Diversity and Inclusion

British schools in Riga are celebrated for their multicultural environment, which brings together students and staff from diverse backgrounds. This exposure to different cultures promotes empathy, tolerance, and a broad worldview among students. Such an environment not only enriches the learning experience but also prepares students to thrive in a globally interconnected world. Parents appreciate this aspect as it aligns with today’s increasingly multicultural business and social climates.

Extracurricular Enrichment

Understanding that education extends beyond the classroom, British schools in Riga offer a plethora of extracurricular activities. From sports to arts and various clubs, these activities are designed to develop students’ interests and talents, providing a well-rounded education. These opportunities not only enhance personal growth and skills development but also foster teamwork and leadership qualities among students.

Focus on Character Building

British education places a strong emphasis on character education, which resonates deeply with parents. Schools prioritize the development of values such as integrity, respect, and resilience. This holistic approach to education is aimed at developing not just academically proficient, but also socially and ethically responsible individuals. For many families, this focus on character is as important as academic achievements.

Supportive Learning Environment

The small class sizes and individual attention typical of British schools in Riga ensure a supportive learning environment. This personalized approach helps identify and nurture the unique strengths and needs of each student, enhancing their learning outcomes. Teachers in these schools are often highly qualified and passionate about their roles, further enriching the educational experience for students.

  • I am always learning from my students. They push me to be a bigger risk-taker. It is this challenging oneself to take on difficult projects and then acknowledging that things might not work the way I want but I will do everything to succeed. That keeps me going.

  • It is really different from Brazil which is my home country. Everything here is so clean, so quiet and the infrastructure is amazing. In the classrooms, boarding house, even outside and in the city in general. Everything seems well-built and seems to work, which is something you don’t always have. It is vital for me to see nature everyday, be in a beautiful environment and be a part of a friendly community. I also enjoy the fact that here you don’t just sit and listen during lessons. We are always discussing things, getting feedback from each other and learning something new by participating, not observing. So, our role as students is really active.

  • I believe that pushing a child to choose a career path at an early age causes internal and external conflicts. The EIS curriculum, however, allows my son to have a hands-on experience in various subjects that help him discover his true passion, so he can make a conscious choice when ready. Also, he became more confident and responsible – I see that when he comes home on holidays and honestly, I am proud of him.
