Fifth Grade Fantasy Design Project

The fifth grade fantasy design project started with A Wish in the Dark by Christina Soontornvat. Reading Wish inspired writing! Students explored elements of the fantasy genre including world building to create their own short story. When you build a world you imagine wild new ways to live – think social expectations, food, transportation, technology. World building is a fun challenge!

Design teachers Andrew Grimwood and Nikki Vreugdenhil then took the challenge further: fifth graders designed and constructed an artifact from their own fantasy story. The group was excited to share their fantasy stories and projects with an audience, welcoming parents and teachers to see their work.
