ISSH student artwork at the Children’s Hospital of Bucharest, Romania.

Last year 2 of our students at ISSH won the Art4Impact competition for the Anouk Foundation which uses art to improve healing and promote well-being in social and medical institutions.

A team of artists paint ‘therapeutic’ murals in healthcare institutions for children and the elderly.

This programme in partnership with the Swiss Center for Affective Sciences, University of Geneva, offers school children the possibility to create and submit drawings that will improve the emotional well-being of sick children and staff in the hospital. Jury-selected drawings are repainted in children’s hospitals across Europe by Anouk’s artists.

The programme gives children a voice and the possibility to engage themselves in the community. It also provides a way for families and caregivers to talk about emotions, illness, social commitment, and resilience.

Both pictures of our students have been recreated by artists on the walls of the Children’s Hospital of Bucharest, Romania.

Art and Design are used at ISSH as a way of expressing emotions and creating a voice for our students. Therefore this competition resonates with the focus on mental well-being and strengthening resilience as important values at our school and in the ever-changing world.
