Extra curricular

At AOSR, an American education means intellectually, socially, and civically guiding the whole individual. Learning continues beyond the classroom as there are various opportunities for students to practice leadership, experience teamwork, and develop their creative side.

AOSR is known for its competitive Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. Athletes participate in the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) European League at the Division II level. In the last two years, our varsity girls' basketball team and our cheerleading teams have won back-to-back championships. Our cross country team also won their national tournament for the first time in the school's history, and we continue to create championship-winning teams in football, and volleyball, and we will be expanding our sporting program in 2024. AOSR hosts visiting international schools and Italian clubs, and students are able to travel to various schools around Italy to compete. Over 50% of students at AOSR participate in an athletic program.

Afterschool activities include a range of sports, arts, and music, business classes, tech classes, and offerings are added quarterly based on student interests. The activities in the program are intended to help students to become culturally aware, build their interests, and to help them foster concepts such as collaboration, cooperation, and teamwork. They also nurture interpersonal relationships and a feeling of community.
