St George’s British International School is an inclusive, non-selective school and one of the leading UK and IB curriculum schools in continental Europe. Founded in 1958 to serve Rome’s expatriate and international community, the main campus is a 14 acre site in the north of the city, with a further Junior School campus located close to the Vatican in central Rome.
The majority of teaching staff at St George’s are British nationals, with a small number of teachers also coming from other English speaking countries including the US. All are highly experienced and have previously taught in schools in the UK or internationally. They each hold university degrees, many have higher degrees and all have postgraduate teaching qualifications.

The pupils at St George’s represent 92 different nationalities. A large number of families have connections to the UN and the Diplomatic community. The annual graduating class typically consists of 75 pupils. An average class size for pupils in the IB Diploma Programme is 14.

Although the school follows a strong British curriculum and tradition, with English as the language of instruction, it is truly international in many respects. The celebration of cultural diversity as at the heart of the school’s ethos and admission policies. Whilst an expansive range of core and optional subjects are taught at various stages of the curriculum, Mathematics, the Sciences, English and foreign languages are always at the heart of every pupil’s curriculum.

An extensive co-curricular programme of over 200 different clubs and activities enables pupils to participate in a wide range of opportunities beyond the curriculum. There are a plethora of creative and performing arts clubs. Sports teams include rugby, football, basketball, hockey, volleyball, athletics and tennis. Other clubs include Model United Nations, Philosophy, Coding, Design, Environmental Awareness, LGBTQIA+ and Student Council. Pupils are also involved in raising funds for an orphanage in Zambia.
