Why choose an American School in Vaud
The American curriculum, revered globally for its holistic approach to education, stands as a beacon for parents seeking a robust educational pathway for their children. Renowned for fostering not only academic excellence but also critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills, this curriculum prepares students for real-world challenges and opportunities.
Focus on a Comprehensive Education
At its core, the American curriculum is designed to offer a balanced education. It emphasizes a broad range of subjects, including the arts, sciences, and humanities, ensuring that students receive a well-rounded educational experience. This diversity in coursework is particularly beneficial as it allows students to explore various fields of interest, aiding them in making informed decisions about their future careers.
Emphasis on Critical Thinking and Creativity
One of the standout features of the American curriculum is its emphasis on developing critical thinking skills. Students are encouraged to analyze, question, and challenge the status quo, fostering an environment where innovative thinking is not just encouraged but expected. This focus on creativity is seen in the myriad of project-based assignments and interactive learning sessions that typify American schools, making learning an engaging and dynamic experience.
Flexibility and Adaptability
Flexibility is another hallmark of the American educational system. The curriculum allows students to tailor their studies to align with their interests and career aspirations. Advanced Placement (AP) courses offer a taste of college-level studies while still in high school, providing both a challenge and an opportunity to earn college credit early. This adaptability makes it an attractive option for students who desire a more personalized educational journey.
Global Recognition and Opportunities
The American diploma is globally recognized and respected, paving the way for graduates to pursue higher education and career opportunities worldwide. Universities around the globe acknowledge the rigour and breadth of the American curriculum, often giving preference to students who have navigated this comprehensive educational system. This global acceptance is crucial for families who might consider relocating or whose children aspire to careers in international arenas.
Moreover, the American educational system's focus on extracurricular activities helps in the holistic development of students. These activities are integral to the curriculum, promoting leadership skills, teamwork, and personal growth. Whether it's sports, music, or debate clubs, these activities provide platforms for students to excel in their areas of interest, fostering a sense of achievement and confidence.
Choosing an American curriculum school in Vaud means investing in a future where children are not only learners but also innovators and leaders. It promises a nurturing environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and personally, equipped with the skills needed for success in a rapidly changing world.

- Haut-Lac is not just a school, it is a community for families where children and parents alike can form long lasting bonds of friendship. My children had five very happy years there, the standard of education delivered is very high by a team of dedicated, incredibly hardworking staff and they are reaping the rewards of such a start now in their new schools. What they have also learned thanks to the IB programme is how to grow and develop into mature, responsible young adults, very aware of the issues of their world and how to take a pro-active stance to address them. Thank you Haut-Lac for an amazing experience and hopefully we will return to visit you all again soon.Read moreWritten February 25, 2023
- My two sons actually started school at Haut Lac back in the early days in 2000 and with the exception of our 6 year expatriation, did all of their schooling at Haut Lac. They have now graduated and both have gotten accepted to their first choice Universities and are now pursuing their dreams.
It is my feeling that my children received an excellent education at Haut Lac, but so much more. They have made amazing lifelong friends from all nationalities, they were and still are a part of the amazing Haut-Lac community which never ends. Once you are a part of this school community, you are for life, myself included! Today my children are two incredibly well rounded young men with a global perspective on life and very open minds, and i have no doubt that they will go very far in life. I credit a large part of who they are today to the school, the teachers, the community and the friends that they made at Haut Lac.

- I have been to St. George’s for 5 years as a full boarder and I can’t choose my favourite memory from St. Georges as there were too many of them. But I think that being a boarder, meeting all my friends, having different field trips and becoming a Head of School were one of my most favourite memories.

It allows the younger students to benefit from the facilities and expectations of the older students and the older students to maintain their enthusiasm for learning. I love teaching primary age students about number concepts such as introducing them to large numbers like a googol and always getting an amazed reaction when they find out the number is larger than the number of atoms in the universe.Read moreWritten February 25, 2023
